1929 English Sporting Oil Painting – C. F. Bretherick

1929 English Sporting Oil Painting – C. F. Bretherick

A beautiful original English oil painting dated 1929, signed by British artist C. F. Bretherick and titled Sporting Times on the original handwritten label preserved on the reverse.

This wonderfully atmospheric woodland scene captures a quiet moment beside a stream, where a figure stands fishing along the water’s edge while a horse and rider appear in the distance. Rich autumnal tones, soft woodland light and expressive brushwork give the painting a lovely sense of depth and movement.

Presented in an ornate gilt frame, the painting has all the appeal of traditional English country-house art. Particularly special is the original handwritten label on the reverse, bearing the artist’s name, London address and original price of ten guineas.

A beautiful piece of English sporting history, perfect for a study, library or thoughtfully layered living space.
