A beautifully timeworn 19th-century French Catholic prayer book, published in Limoges in 1891 by Dalpayrat et Depelley. This small Paroissien Romain was designed to be carried to church or kept bedside for daily devotion — its pages holding both Latin and French prayers, including the Sunday offices, principal feasts of the year, and the Mass of Communion.
Bound in its original hard cover with gilt detailing and bordered pages, it bears all the signs of age that make it so evocative — soft wear along the spine, foxing on the pages, and some loose gatherings that speak to generations of use. A beautifully preserved chromolithograph illustration inside adds a touch of colour and reverence.
A lovely piece for any collector of antique devotional books or for those who appreciate the quiet poetry of an object long held in faithful hands.
