France, circa 1890–1910
6.5” W x 4” H 5” D
A beautifully aged French copper bain-marie insert, crafted by hand in the late 19th century. Once part of a larger double-boiler or warming setup, this petite pot was designed with a flat back to nest neatly against a stove or the curved wall of a larger vessel — ensuring gentle, even heat. The small brass hook on the rim kept it anchored in place while sauces or butter slowly warmed.
Richly patinated from years of kitchen use, it features rolled edges, hammered surface texture, and a lovely burnished tone that speaks to its history. Perfect today as a decorative accent, a small planter, or a unique vessel for utensils or herbs.
A charming glimpse into 19th-century French culinary tradition — and a sculptural piece of copper to warm any homebody kitchen.
