Antique Victorian George Eliot Decorative Book Set of 6 (c. 1897)

A richly atmospheric six-volume Victorian-era set of classic novels by George Eliot (the pen name of Mary Ann Evans), dating to the late 19th century.

Published by the F. M. Lupton Publishing Company of New York, these volumes were produced during the firm’s most decorative period (circa 1894–1899) and were intended for the well-appointed home library—books to be read, cherished, and beautifully displayed.

Each volume is bound in deep burgundy/red cloth with ornate gold gilt scrollwork and titles to the spines, and features gilt top edges, now softly mellowed with age. Inside, the books retain their black-and-white illustrated title pages and frontispieces, a hallmark of Victorian book design.

Adding to their charm, each book is signed and dated 1897 by a family owner on the first page, offering a tangible connection to their early history and enhancing their story and provenance.

Condition:

Overall very good antique condition, especially considering their age (128+ years). Light wear to spines and edges consistent with age and use. The back cover of Felix Holt is loose but intact; it does not detract from display or reading and could be stabilized with gentle restoration if desired.

Perfect as a decorative library set, for English country or European-inspired interiors, or as a meaningful gift for a literature lover or collector of Victorian objects.

Your order will be shipped using a courier such as Canada Post, UPS, or Purolator. Depending on your distance from us, or if border crossing is involved, orders will take between 3 and 10 business days to arrive. Saturday and Sunday are not business days for mail in Canada.

We do not currently ship or deliver large items such as furniture.

Can I return my item?

Shopping online can be difficult and we hope you love your purchase. We have limits on what can be returned and how. Please read our in depth return policy and ask questions prior to your purchase to avoid disappointments.

New items can be returned within 14 days of receipt for exchange or store credit. All other items including vintage and seasonal are considered final sale. Please look carefully at photos and descriptions to avoid any disappointment with regards to size or condition.
