A beautiful collection of ten 18th-century French poetry books, Annales Poétiques, ou Almanach des Muses, published in Paris during the late 1700s.
Each petite volume is bound in wonderfully aged mottled leather, finished with gilt floral details, decorative gilt bands and original-style red leather title labels. Inside, several volumes feature finely engraved portraits of celebrated French poets, along with beautifully typeset French text.
The books form part of a much larger series chronicling French poetry, with the numbered volumes represented across different years. Examples within this collection are dated 1778 and 1786, making these books approximately 240–250 years old.
Their timeworn leather, faded gilt, softened edges and irregularities are very much part of their beauty. There is wear and loss to some bindings consistent with their considerable age; please refer to photographs for condition.
A particularly lovely collection displayed together on a bookshelf, stacked on a table or incorporated into a collection of antique books and objects.
